Haida Gwaii (known as the Queen Charlotte Islands until as late as 2010!! WHAT took Canada so long to OFFICIALLY HONOUR HAIDA GWAII ITS ORIGINAL NAME!!) is located off the northern coast of British Columbia in the Mighty Pacific Ocean. It is one of the great wonders of the still unspoiled, natural world. Most of its land and sea are protected at the Federal/ the Provincial level.
Haida Gwaii enjoys a great abundance of both wildlife (black bear, black-tailed deer, etc, etc) and sea-life (orcas, dolphins, sea lions, otters, eagles, salmon, halibut, etc, etc). There were once WHITE Ravens in Haida Gwaii, but all of them have vanished over the years..
Tangible evidence has been found which indicates that Haida Gwaii has been inhabited for some 13,000 YEARS!! There are indications of ruins of ancient villages beneath the sea as well as well as on land. The ruins of villages on land boast centuries-old Totem Poles which STILL stand tall and proud and magnificent!! IMAGINE!!
